Steps to Taking Action for This New Year!

Hey there Reader;

As I mentioned last week, I am shaking up my emails and experimenting with what works. Check the TLDR at the end to get the email summary.

Let me start with my video. This week's video is just an encouragement to you all.

Now, to follow up on that idea of self-care, I have a few ideas for you to keep your class on track.

Today’s email comes with 5 simple, affordable actionable steps you can take to get your class on track again.

Action Step #1:

First and always, build community. Bring those kiddos back into the relationship.

Try this FREE ‘Would You Rather’ community builder. Everything works better when everyone feels like a part of the team.

Action Step #2:

The research is in, flexible seating is a good idea; and not just in kindergarten. Can you reach out to the community for a free couch?

Maybe a couple of cushions in a cubby. Even let the students sit under their desks on carpet squares if you can get some donated. The dollar store sometimes has some nice mats that are easy to put away.

A more upscale version would include back supports like these. (No, that is not an affiliate link.)

These items are easy to organize and change the learning environment without much effort.

Action Step #3:

Make certain that you have a chore chart. Create a chart with various classroom tasks such as: cleaning the whiteboard, organizing or sharpening pencils, sweeping the floor or paper passer. Have your students work together (great for community building), and rotate them through the chores each week. This keeps the classroom tidy and instills a sense of responsibility and teamwork among your students.

Action Step #4:

Declutter! A cluttered space full of pipe cleaners and Dollar Tree trinkets “you might use one day” inhibits creativity and productivity. Don’t be afraid to THROW IT AWAY!

Action Step #5

From the Dollar Store purchase stackable trays. Use these to organize recycled paper for free time colouring, extra writing paper for writing block, or even to give one to each student for a “mailbox” to organize their take home items.

Now, what are you waiting for? Take all that New Years’ motivation and start taking action, Reader!

You are not alone in this crazy, wonderful journey we call teaching! I’m right here, cheering you on.
